The Founders Affiliate of the American Heart Association is recruiting to fill an outside sales/fundraising position as the Director for the Southern New Jersey Heart Walk held in October 2012 at Cooper River park and the Southern New Jersey Go Red for Women Luncheon held in March 2012 at Luciens Manor.

The Director must build a network of meaningful volunteer partnerships to advance the mission of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. Provide timely direction, framework and resources to volunteers while at the same time relying on their expertise, abilities and willingness to leverage their networks to drive the goals of the organization. Share meaningful opportunities for volunteers so they can utilize their passion to further the mission of the organization. Give recognition to volunteers for their efforts to help ensure their success and drive satisfaction. Hold each other accountable, both volunteers and staff, while being accessible and build collaborative staff-volunteer partnerships that are based on a foundation of mutual trust. Create a collaborative environment where staff from various functions work together to achieve results across health, revenue and volunteerism goals for the organization.

Essential Duties:

  1. Acquire companies as sponsors for the local Heart Walk and Go Red for Women Luncheon. Build relationships with sponsors to retain and upgrade their financial involvement.
  2. Recruit and manage key community and corporate leaders to establish aggressive event goals based on market potential.
  3. Establish relationships with affluent individual donors and family foundations and achieve dollar results for the events.
  4. In conjunction with the Regional VP, set annual fundraising goal and implement business strategies and best practices to achieve revenue goals set.
  5. Establish new accounts and cultivate new customers to reach highest level of revenue generation.
  6. Manage and mobilize high level corporate business leaders, including participation from the Medical and Pharmaceutical industries, and influential community stakeholders to serve on the event Executive Leadership Committee.
  7. Build relationships with key corporate leaders who can support fundraising initiatives and involve them at the appropriate time. Manage such volunteers for not only short term results but also upgraded long-term relationships.
  8. Conduct business market assessment to determine market potential and target Heart Walk and Go Red for Women companies.
  9. Develop a profile of the top 50 businesses in the assigned geographic area with a written year-round relationship-building plan to ensure their involvement in the events.
  10. Through the usage of AHA auction guidelines create and execute a plan to ensure a successful event auction
  11. Serve as direct contact with customers and provide a high level of customer service to ensure customer satisfaction.
  12. In coordination with the Affiliate, involve key volunteers as natural partners in the cultivation, recruitment and solicitation process.
  13. Develop timeline and budget for the Heart Walk and the Go Red for Women Luncheon in concert with goals and objectives.
  14. Successfully utilize National & Affiliate materials, products, databases and tools including Siebel, and E-1. Usage includes timely and accurate entry of data, running and reviewing reports, and monitoring and updating data as needed.
  15. In conjunction with the site Communications Director, ensure that the appropriate media coverage is obtained for the events.
  16. Continually seek to improve and maintain fundraising skills, including maintaining knowledge of current trends in fundraising.
  17. Participates in appropriate Division, Region and Affiliate area staff meetings and training programs.
  18. Other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  1. Minimum of 2 years experience in fund raising or outside sales position that involves building and maintaining sales relationship.
  2. Possess strong selling and negotiation skills.
  3. Knowledge and demonstrated ability to successfully identify, cultivate, recruit, and maintain relationships with top level volunteers from identified companies.
  4. Demonstrated skills in fundraising or successful outside sales.
  5. Proven ability to understand and navigate corporate cultures to achieve goals.
  6. Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication at all organizational levels.
  7. Ability to plan and conduct meetings.
  8. Must have the ability to lift at least 20 lbs from the ground to waist level with or without reasonable accommodation
  9. Ability and willingness to travel as position demands.
  10. Ability to work outside standard hours as needed, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  11. Ability to use Microsoft products, computer software, run reports and maintain accurate data.
  12. Satisfactory background checks.
Required Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree. Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 years experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education.

Experience:

  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position's educational requirement.
