Job Description

KeyLogic seeks to immediately hire an experienced Natural Gas and Methane Emissions Measurement and Mitigation Analyst to join its Pittsburgh-based Life Cycle Analysis team. This growing team conducts data-driven, statistically rigorous cradle-to-grave- environmental assessments on a variety of conventional and renewable energy pathways for a variety of clients in the Government and commercial sectors. Quantification of emissions and impacts is recognized as the critical first step to implementing science-based reduction approaches in systems of all scales. A key part in our emerging work portfolio is in understanding how natural processes create oil and gas resources, and how subsequent technological processes in the oil and gas supply chain - such as production, gathering and boosting, processing, and pipeline shipments- produce emissions such as methane which increasingly need to be quantified, incorporated into models, and reduced to meet emerging climate goals.

The successful candidate will apply sound process engineering principles and prior oil and gas knowledge to the area of energy-related life cycle analysis (LCA). They will work with the team to develop and apply their industry knowledge connecting emissions to engineering or geology across the value chain with LCA methods and tools, collect and analyze data, integrate and interpret results, and communicate the resulting information in publications and presentations.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, Geology, or related field
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience in natural or technological systems that produce oil and natural gas, and emissions such as methane
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP)
  • Comfortable with articulating study results in written and oral formats to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to pass any required background checks and obtain any necessary security clearances required by our clients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in energy systems and environmental assessment
  • Familiarity with data analysis and statistical analysis concepts
  • Familiarity with LCA methods (ISO 14040/14044)
  • Experience with LCA software, particularly openLCA
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (lookups, pivot tables, VBA programming)
  • Ability to perform a data analysis using code-based environments
  • Experience in using or modeling data from the EPA GHGRP
  • Experience in modeling benefits of mitigation activities to reduce methane emissions
