Job Description

KeyLogic has an exciting opportunity for an Energy and Climate Life Cycle Modeler and Reviewer to join our Energy Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) Team in Pittsburgh, PA!

The KeyLogic Energy Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) Team supports government and commercial clients in quantifying the environmental impacts of energy-related systems and processes. LCA is the framework of choice as it can assist in answering many challenging questions posed by an evolving global energy system. We combine our knowledge of energy systems with life cycle thinking to illuminate potential hot spots in supply chains and evaluate technology solutions to mitigate those emissions. Our team utilizes data analysis and open source modeling approaches to evaluate client-provided and publicly reported data: in so doing, we produce transparent, high-quality analyses to enable our clients to successfully meet their sustainability goals.

This position would support two types of continuous quick turnaround projects (approximately 1-2 months in duration) requested by the Department of Energy. The first continuous project class is the review of government subsidy applications of proposed technologies that are partly assessed for their life cycle GHG emissions savings compared to existing technologies. This project requires development of Excel and openLCA models and short reports. The second continuous project class comprises reviews of submitted ISO-compliant LCA studies for evaluation of government-funded emission reduction incentives following NETL guidance documents, requiring knowledge of various standards and guidance documents, and leading to written and virtual briefings.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Independently investigate technologies and thoughtfully articulate key findings and data applicable to the research question
  • Utilize multiple platforms to perform data analysis and modeling in support of LCA; specifically, Microsoft Excel and openLCA
  • Present results and research findings to senior team members and client staff

Position Requirements:

  • Ability to pass any required background checks and obtain any necessary security clearances required by our clients
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience in LCA
  • Familiarity with LCA methods (ISO 14040/14044) and modeling as evidenced by past co-authorship of ISO LCA studies and reports
  • Experience with openLCA software as evidenced by past use in LCA models and studies
  • Comfortable with articulating study results in written and oral formats to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Self-motivated individual that demonstrates intellectual curiosity in thinking about how to build upon projects to find the next interesting research idea
