Job Description

KeyLogic Systems seeks to immediately hire a Techno-Economic Engineer (for Energy Systems) to join its growing Pittsburgh-based Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) Team, which conducts TEAs and a range of other energy analyses on a variety of conventional and renewable energy pathways for a variety of clients, but in particular for the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL).

The Engineer will apply sound process engineering principles, energy sector knowledge and analytical leadership to the area of energy-related TEA. The Engineer will work with the team to develop and apply methods and tools, collect and analyze data, integrate and interpret results, and communicate the resulting information in publications and presentations.

Position Requirements:

  • Ability to pass any required background checks and obtain any necessary security clearances required by our clients.
  • Hybrid work environment with a minimum of three days per week in person (office location is near South Park, PA)
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or other process engineering discipline; advanced degree is preferred
  • 0-5 years of experience
  • Project experience with Aspen Plus, Thermoflow, or similar software
  • Demonstrated Excel proficiency
  • Familiarity with data analysis concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to communication scientific and technical concepts effectively in reports, technical documents, and presentations

Desired Skills:

  • 0-5 years of experience performing techno-economic analyses
  • Knowledge and understanding of energy technology and infrastructure such as natural gas combined cycle plants, pulverized coal power plants, carbon capture (preference given to candidates with CO2 capture experience), large scale project economies and financing, critical mineral recovery from coal-based feedstocks
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a structured team environment with federal staff and other technical service contractors

Position Responsibilities:

  • Quickly learn and assess technologies, data, operations, and regulations related to energy systems
  • Regularly interact with multi-disciplinary project teams to collaboratively generate solutions to energy challenges based on sound scientific and engineering principles
  • Compile study findings (including presentation of data) into publishable, quality deliverables
  • Prepare technical summary reports, graphs and tables, communication products, and articles based on research projects on a variety of technologies
  • Make recommendations on administrative or technical work direction and ensure the highest achievement of clientele programmatic, project or organizational objectives
  • Travel to technical conferences and meetings (occasionally, as needed)
  • For Master's and PhD candidates, seek out opportunities to showcase work at conferences and peer reviewed publications
  • Seek opportunities for and participate in projects which promote cross-team collaboration
  • Seek opportunities for external collaboration such as with industry and academia as distinct from business development
  • Continue personal growth and development, aligning your knowledge and skill acquisition with the future direction of KeyLogic and key clients
  • Mentoring and supervising energy analysis junior staff
