Job Description

STV is seekingNBIS Bridge Inspector(s)for ourPittsburgh, Harrisburg or Philadelphia, PA office. Candidates will assist bridge inspection team leaders and project manager in planning for future inspections. They will ensure the inspection team is prepared for field work, complete the inspection under the guidance of a team leader and then prepare the field notes and reports for review. In addition, this position will complete and review bridge design plans and submittals for public infrastructure projects and requires familiarity with structural design software, Bentley Leap, AASHTO, PennDOT, and PTC design manuals and standards, as well as MicroStation V8i and ORD.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Develop inspection reports, notes, load rating calculations.
  • Assist with field coordination between Pennsylvania offices and subcontractors.
  • Record daily notes from the inspections completed.
  • Communication priority maintenance items to the Project Manager.
  • Develop repair recommendations.
  • Basic design calculations for new and existing bridges, retaining walls, culverts and other structures related to transportation.
  • Creating construction documents, including drawings and specifications.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of progressively responsible structure design related experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
  • Basic understanding of structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, pre-stressed concrete and timber.
  • Completed the bridge inspection basic course (within Pennsylvania preferred).
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience in use of Microstation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Use and understanding of structural analysis and design software, such as LARSA, LeapBridge and STAAD.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, operate inspection access equipment, carry ladders, work alongside highways and/or railroads.

Compensation Range:

$68,560.00 - $91,413.00
