The advanced practice provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) within the ambulatory setting works in collaboration with, and is an integral member of, a multidisciplinary health care team. The APP provides expedited access (same day/ next day) to newly diagnosed cancer patients or patients with abnormal laboratory or radiology results suggestive of a malignancy. The APP must accommodate patient requests for same or next day appointments which will be offered as telemedicine visits M-F 8am-8pm and Saturday 8-12pm. The APP telemedicine visit will serve as a bridge to the appropriate oncology specialist, obtain prior diagnostic studies, and order additional studies to prepare them for their visit with the oncology specialist. In addition to maintaining close follow-up with the patient, she/he/they will work closely with the oncology teams to coordinate additional diagnostic studies and clinic appointments to assure a smooth and positive experience for the patient with a new cancer diagnosis or an undiagnosed finding needing further evaluation.

Jefferson Health, the clinical arm of Thomas Jefferson University, has grown from a three-hospital academic health center in 2015, to an 18-hospital health system through mergers and combinations that include hospitals at Abington Health, Aria Health, Kennedy Health, Magee Rehabilitation and Einstein Healthcare Network. We have over 50 outpatient and urgent care centers; ten Magnetreg;-designated hospitals (recognized by the ANCC for nursing excellence); the NCI-designated Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center (one of only 70 in the country and one of only two in the region); and one of the largest faculty-based telehealth networks in the country.
