Acara Solutions is seeking an FPGA Firmware Developer for our client in Canonsburg, PA.

  • Be part of a design, system engineering, and electrical engineering team to develop embedded systems.
  • Architected, designed, and documented FPGA firmware hierarchies, components, interfaces, and data flows.
  • Develop firmware with detailed design descriptions.
  • Simulate and test firmware components in preparation for integration.
  • Define FPGA timing, pinout, and placement constraints.
  • Review synthesis and timing reports and address issues.
  • Integrate and test firmware on target hardware.
  • Identify necessary schematic updates and hardware reworks to support the design.
  • Utilize FPGA tools and laboratory equipment for integration and debugging.
  • Document failures, identify root causes, implement fixes, and verify changes.
  • Maintain configuration management documentation for the FPGA design.
  • Implementing custom digital signal processing filters.
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering or Science or Engineering or Mathematics.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience implementing FPGA firmware, including custom VHDL components containing state machines, synchronous/asynchronous logic, processes, and external interfaces.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working across cross-clock boundaries.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience reviewing schematics, parts lists, and re-work documentation.

Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree.
  • Agile experience.
  • Understanding of the underlying FPGA fabric the firmware utilizes.
  • Familiarity with Xilinx (AMD) or Altera (Intel) compiler, programming, and debug tools.
  • Methodical problem-solving skills.
  • Motivation to research and resolve issues independently.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with floor planning and timing optimizations.
  • Working knowledge of standard network protocols (e.g., IPv4, UDP, TCP/IP).

  • Upon offer of employment, the individual will be subject to a background check and a drug screen.
