Location - Propel Northside

Propel seeks a Lead Custodian for our Facilities Department. This position is based at Propel Northside and is available immediately. That range for this role is $15 to $17/hr. This position works year round.

Propel Schools is looking for a highly motivated full-time Lead Custodian to support Propel Northside. The Lead Custodian will ensure the assigned areas, including classrooms rooms, public areas, and equipment are properly cleaned to meet department standards in order to promote the quality of care rendered in the school environment. Will be responsible for managing the upkeep of the school facility and work with and coordinate assigned custodians. This position works Monday through Friday 6:00 A.M -2:00 P.M. Some weekends, and evenings required, as needed.

  • Ensure that the daily work of all team members is assigned and that team members are working in assigned area.
  • Inspect and ensure that all assigned areas are properly cleaned and in good repair, report problems to maintenance and supervisor.
  • Report problems and suggestions to the Manager of Operations.
  • Communicate with maintenance and Manager of Operations regarding specific needs in order to complete assignments.
  • Point of contact for security alarm calls.
  • Train employees on proper sanitizing procedures and proper use of operating equipment.
  • Ensure that sufficient supplies and equipment are available for staff. Report all problems to the Manager of Operations.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation regulations. Report infractions of rules to supervisor.
  • Comply with all school/department policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for managing and completing work orders.
  • Clean all assigned areas, including classrooms, bathrooms, cafeteria, gym, offices, and equipment, following established procedures.
  • Remove trash from all assigned areas.
  • Maintain assigned operating equipment is in clean, working condition, reporting problems and suggestions to the Manager of Operations.
  • Perform routine custodial duties including; sweep, mop, scrub, and wax floors; vacuum, spot clean, and shampoo carpets; clean and disinfect drinking fountains, sinks, toilets, and urinals; wash and clean windows, walls mirrors, and tile.
  • Replenish paper towels, toilet paper, and soap in all locations of assigned areas to assure adequate supply.
  • Assemble, move, and arrange furniture, supplies, and equipment in preparing classrooms and multi-purpose rooms for special events or meetings.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs including; replacing light bulbs, ceiling tile, switch and outlet plates, painting, repairing furniture and equipment, hanging bulletin boards, etc.
  • Responsible for snow removal of steps and walkways during inclement weather.
  • Leads and participates in major summer cleaning projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The custodian works as part of the Facilities Team and reports to the Director of Facilities.

Qualifications

Candidates must be 18 or older to apply and have reliable transportation.

Work may involve a variety of physical demands. Selected Candidate must have the ability to perform strenuous manual labor tasks as required, including, but not limited to:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Ability to perform physical labor such as moving furniture and equipment, lifting, climbing ladders, etc
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as, vacuums, floor scrubbers, floor strippers, buffers, carpet shampooers, high pressure sprayers, and snow blowers.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must be extremely organized
  • Must possess effective communication skills
  • Must posses basic computer skills.
  • General knowledge of housekeeping, tools, equipment and supplies

Preferred

  • 18 months custodial experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Compensation: Propel provides a competitive salary for custodians. Our rate range for this role is $15 to $17/hr.
  • Relocation Allowance: A relocation allowance for new hires moving to the area from 60 miles away or further.
  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plan options at a low cost for individual employees and families.
  • Retirement: New hires participate in a 403(b); Propel contributes 5% automatically and matches up to 4%. This increases after 5 years.
  • Paid Leave: In addition to 2 paid Wellness days annually, all Specialists receive 5 sick days and 9 Personal Days.
  • Tuition Assistance: Reimbursement of up to $3,000 annually upon completion of course and receipt of grades for coursework that meets our eligibility requirements.
  • Wellness Benefit: Reimbursement of $20 per month for wellness activities including Gym Memberships, health programs, etc. Additionally, staff have the ability to earn up to $300 for participation in a Wellness Program each year.
