Team and Role Description:

The CRA team within Credit Risk supports the firms risk management efforts surrounding our responsibilities regarding The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA). The CRA was originally enacted in 1977 and is intended to encourage financial institutions to help meet the credit needs of the communities in which they operate, including low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, consistent with safe and sound banking operations. The CRA requires that each covered institution's record in helping meet the credit needs of its entire community be evaluated periodically.

The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Associate is responsible for managing CRA data processes including managing data quality control, creating analytic reports, validating CRA eligible activities and assisting in the preparation of annual Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) and CRA Data submissions

Responsibilities:

  • Acquiring data from primary or secondary data sources, reviewing transaction documentation for data accuracy and creating and validating management reports
  • Ensure accurate data collection and participate in data quality control process for CRA reporting and examinations
  • Work with business lines and operations to ensure data accuracy and documentation of CRA eligible activities
  • Assist with maintaining CRA public file and CRA examination preparation
  • Recommends nuanced policy and procedure improvements to ensure data validity and regulatory reporting quality
  • Assists with developing and maintaining resources, tools and procedures to ensure data capture, analysis and reporting are completed accurately
  • Support the implementation and administration of all aspects of the Bank's CRA Program
  • Supports the Bank's CRA objectives by participating in external community development activities

  • Excellent written and oral communication, and analytical skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong time management skills: ability to handle both tactical and drive strategic initiatives
  • Strong influencing skills: ability to articulate complex issues concisely and effectively to varying audiences to achieve desirable outcomes
  • Ability to focus on granular details with accuracy and not lose sight of big picture objectives
  • Can shift priorities with short notice and remain organized
  • Demonstrated proficiency in working with large data sets to garner and present actionable business insights: strong Excel skills, Access SAS experience a plus
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and calm under pressure.
  • Willingness to learn, develop, and take on additional responsibilities when required
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team function

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required. Degrees in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or other Business degrees are preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience is required; 3 years experience in financial services is preferred
  • General- to working-knowledge of banking industry and services is required

Base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and company- sponsored benefit programs.

This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance and market factors.
