Job Summary

Provides administrative support services for patient care to include scheduling and confirming a large volume of appointments and surgeries via telephone, web, email, and in-person utilizing exceptional patient and customer service skills. Maintains accurate databases and records and ensures all forms and paperwork are completed and correct. Performs more advanced financial functions.


Essential Functions

University Dental Health Services, Inc. (UDHS) is a private dental practice staffed by the licensed dentists who serve as faculty of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. UDHS dentists include general practitioners as well as periodontists, prosthodontists, orthodontists, pediatric dentists, maxillofacial prosthodontists, anesthesiologists, and oral and maxillofacial surgeons. The Front Desk Patient Coordinator (PC) serves as the initial point of contact for patients seeking care at (UDHS).

The incumbent is responsible for receiving prospective patient calls, conveying requested information in a friendly and courteous manner, obtaining necessary information from patients to schedule all appointments, and the verification of insurance prior to the scheduled appointment. As patients visit UDHS, the PC team again plays a critical role in creating a positive, professional experience, from the welcome given by the PC, to the courteous and efficient completion of the registration process for scheduled and emergency patients. The PC also collects individual patient payments and prepares daily reports for the business and billing offices. The incumbent must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and diligently observe HIPAA requirements in all dealings with patients and patient information. The PC must function well in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Accuracy, attention to detail, and an ability to understand the mechanics of patient, provider, and practice account administration are critical to success in the role.
