Job Description

Carnegie Mellon University's College of Fine Arts (CFA), School of Art, is searching for an Undergraduate Curriculum Coordinator to join their team. The School of Art is one of five schools within the College of Fine Arts, which also includes the Schools of Architecture, Design, Drama and Music. Benchmarks of the School include collaborative relationships with innovative learning environments such as the Center for Arts in Society, the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry and IDeATE; and an outstanding curriculum that includes social practice, critical theory, and technology alongside programs in electronic and time based media, painting, drawing, and sculpture.

The Undergraduate Curriculum Coordinator will contribute to the department by supporting the school's growth and evolution as it increases its student matriculation and implements a new curriculum, currently moving into year three of a four-year rollout. The position requires a self-sufficient problem solver able to work both independently on projects and in team settings. The position will oversee planning, scheduling, and implementing the course schedule, a process that will require collaborative data assessment of student matriculation; understanding of student trends and career intentions; ongoing faculty engagement; and awareness of two different degree communities within the school (BFA and BXA). This position also includes adjunct faculty engagement and onboarding; awareness of teaching facilities both inside and outside of the school; and administration and coordination of academic benchmarks related to student reviews, external accreditation, and future planning efforts.

Core responsibilities include:
  • Work with a team that will include the Head of School, Assistant Head of Academic Affairs, and Director of Foundational Studies, to help to oversee numerous aspects of the school's curricular planning, scheduling, and implementation.
  • Engage with faculty, leading all aspects of the schedule and structure of courses to meet the needs of the curriculum as well as the size of the student body and its matriculation at each year and corresponding course level (foundational, intermediate, and advanced).
  • Develop communication and enrollment solicitation materials for courses and curricular content in partnership with the SOA Marketing and Communication Manager.
  • Handle the incoming and forthcoming adjunct community, assisting with planning, solicitation, hiring, communications, and onboarding of adjunct instructors.
  • Work in tandem with the Assistant Head of Academic Affairs and Director of Foundational Studies to manage, structure, and schedule student reviews and other benchmarking.
  • Liaise with our BXA degree office in helping the school oversee the movement and matriculation of its BXA population, as well as other student transfer and retention efforts.
  • Work in tandem with the Head of School, Assistant Head of Academic Affairs, and Director of Foundational Studies to support student transition and retention efforts.
  • Be a lead organizer of data collection and information for NASAD application and recurring accreditation.

You should demonstrate:
  • Proof of excellent organizational skills
  • Awareness of 4-year undergraduate curricular structures
  • Proficiency with data management software and data presentation software, including spreadsheets and the Adobe creative suite
  • Familiarity with art school curriculum and culture
  • Experience working within team environments in academic settings
  • Experience working with deadlines, fast turnaround, and last-minute updates or changes

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3-5 years of proven experience
