Position Overview:

The primary function of this role will be to work closely with the Project Engineer to create plans for the construction of municipal infrastructure projects and private developments such as sewers, site development, subdivisions, and lot grading using computer-aided design (CAD) software.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Produce complete and constructable set of drawings for water distribution and wastewater collection systems (plans and profiles) in accordance with various, client-specific design guidelines.
  • Design high quality, robust, and cost-effective CAD product models by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, and diagrams.
  • Manage production of full sets of contract documents (grading, drainage, water, sewer, paving and SWPPP).
  • Assist in establishing CADD standards and utilizing these standards to minimize hours required.
  • Responsible for the record keeping and documentation of project requirements.
  • Create and revise detail drawings, make required modifications to drawings, and deliver as-built drawings.
  • Design to pertinent codes, such as ADA with minimal oversite.
  • Creating final and complete production drawings suitable for bidding and construction
  • Utilize Autodesk Civil 3D software to perform drafting for grading, plan/profile sheets, details, water, sanitary, storm, paving, and drainage to produce site development and municipal construction plans.
  • Develop complex sequences of construction as it relates to avoiding interruption of service during construction.
  • Direct junior design staff on their daily assignments as well as coaching/mentoring to advance their abilities.
  • Track project schedules and taking accountability for delivering on-time and on-budget.
  • Continue to develop standardized templates for use by other junior designers to produce similarly formatted work products across the entire team.
  • Perform quality control reviews of junior design staff work products.
  • Assess the feasibility and soundness/validity of proposed engineering evaluations.
  • Coordinate directly with the team and management on a day-to-day basis.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates Degree or higher in a related field or 2-year technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course (or equivalent) is preferred (demonstrated experience without a technical degree or certification will be considered).
  • Minimum 5 years working as a Senior CAD Designer or Design Tech related to site development and/or water and wastewater system projects with demonstrable leadership capabilities.
  • Highly proficient with the most current version of AutoCAD (Civil3D).
  • Have working knowledge of CAD Standards, Civil 3D features and annotation styles, surfaces, line styles, sheet set manager and drawing setup.
