The Rizzo Laboratory in the Department of Medicine, Aging Institute (https://aging.pitt.edu/labs/rizzo-lab/) is seeking a qualified candidate to support critical experiments investigating the pathophysiology of diseases of Aging including Alzheimer's disease, neurodegenerative disorders, and related neuropsychiatric and cognitive co-morbidities. The lab uses preclinical model systems and translational approaches towards identifying disease and symptom-modifying therapeutics for Alzheimer's Disease. The incumbent will work as part of a fast-paced drug discovery team supporting multi-institutional consortia including the Model Organism Development for Late Onset Alzheimer's Disease (MODEL-AD) consortium (www.model-ad.org), and The Target Enablement to Accelerate Therapy Development for Alzheimer's Disease (TREAT-AD) Program.
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Basic scientific laboratory work at the bench space. Repetitive pipetting, Handling mice. Must have good eye to hand coordination, excellent visual acuity, and manual dexterity. Must be able to reach/stack consumables on shelves and occasionally move equipment.
Must be able to move swiftly between testing rooms; be able to lift and carry 15 pounds.
