DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The role involves technical inspections, enforcement, and service tasks related to animal food, fertilizer, seed, and pesticides within the Bureau of Plant Industry. Inspections are conducted at agricultural establishments to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, handling consumer complaints, enforcement actions, and emergency responses. Guidance is provided to operators on quality control procedures and good manufacturing practices for various products. Sampling of agronomic products is carried out for laboratory analysis to verify compliance and prevent fraud. Labels are reviewed for adherence to laws, pesticide applicator businesses are inspected for safety, and support is provided to the Hemp program through field inspections and enforcement efforts. Complaints regarding pesticide misuse, worker protection standards and agronomic products are investigated, along with proctoring pesticide certification exams, and presenting pesticide applicator continuing education presentations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This Position will be home headquartered if applicant lives in Venango, Indiana, Armstrong, Clarion, or Jefferson counties. If applicant does not live in one of these counties, the assigned state vehicle must be parked in one of these counties and the workday will start at 8:00 AM at the location of the assigned state vehicle.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in the agricultural or biological sciences, which includes 3 credits in chemistry, 3 credits in plant science, and 3 credits in animal science; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 3 credits in chemistry, 3 credits in plant science, and 3 credits in animal science.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's Class C Driver's License.
